Bay Area Alternatives: Picnic SF

The fast fashion industry is something we should avoid and we should try to shop locally instead!

If you are looking for a boutique/gift shop in San Francisco check out Picnic SF! Picnic SF is located at 1808 Polk St, San Francisco, CA 94109. Picnic also has a website https://www.picnicsf.com/ I had the chance to learn some fascinating information about the background of this boutique!

Picnic is a modern one-stop urban emporium selling a well-curated array of apparel, accessories as well as unique and affordable home accents and gift items! Jasmine mentioned, "The gifts, home goods, and clothing selection at Picnic is a reflection of my own personal taste and as I evolve so does the offerings in the store. For example, lately, I have been gravitating towards home decor and it shows in our product offering. I also try to make the price points accessible as I try to imagine what my customers are comfortable buying." The age demographic of the customers range from the mid-2os to mid- 40s, and professional women working or living in the Russian Hill neighborhood.

Picnic was established in 2004 and has been at the same location in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco ever since! Jasmine originally was a copywriter and had to travel to Palo Alto back in the day. She started Picnic because she wanted to get away from the commute to her job as well as the 9-5 aspect of her job. When she browsed small boutiques and shops, she felt like she would be able to curate an interesting collection that people would be drawn to.

Jasmine has a passion for sourcing things which sparked her interest in boutiques. She also has an interest in seeking out beautiful objects from all over and curating them into displays. Another thing Jasmine loves is the thrill of the hunt when finding vintage furniture or decorative pieces.

The pandemic has changed a couple of things within Picnic. They are more aware of what they buy and seek out more forever pieces as opposed to fast trends. Jasmine also mentioned, "And personally, I am also more conscious of the time I spend working and am learning to scale back for a better work-life balance." However, before COVID, Picnic would participate in the Neighborhood Wine Walk and host an occasional cocktail hour in store!

As you can see, Picnic SF is one of the sustainable boutiques in the Bay Area that we should try to support in any way we can!
