Bay Area Alternatives to Fast Fashion: Girlfriend's Boutique

Updated: Mar 18, 2021

The Fast Fashion industry is something we should avoid and we should try to shop locally instead.

If you live in the bay area, you should consider checking out downtown Pleasanton and all the cute boutiques there. The location of Girlfriend's Boutique is: 549 Main St, Pleasanton, CA 94566. I recently got the chance to talk to the owner of Girlfriend's Boutique, Michelle Maldonado, in Pleasanton, California, and got to learn about the background of her boutique.

Michelle originally had a degree in marketing and was working in high tech but wanted to do something different and be an entrepreneur. She wanted to build a sanctuary for customers to feel good about themselves and wanted to be in the industry where she can talk to customers. Michelle then bought Girlfriends Boutique in September 2015 from another owner and branded everything herself while keeping the integrity of the boutique. Something Michelle loves about having her own boutique is providing a place where women can come and have fun with their friends.

She made sure to keep all the clothes at a certain price point and describes the boutique as, "high fashion at an affordable price." The clothing is stylish while keeping up with the trends at an affordable price. Girlfriends also sells loungewear and workout wear. Michelle said, "The clothes are sold mostly in person because a website takes away from the purpose of being able to talk to customers." As you can see, Michelle loves to connect with her customers and make sure they have a good time.

Unfortunately, covid has impacted their business causing it to be a bit slower. Before covid, Girlfriends Boutique did different fundraisers for local schools and hosted many events in the store. However, now they offer private events where social bubbles can reserve a time to shop together alone.

As you can see, covid has impacted many local businesses and we should try our best to support them as much as we can especially during these tough times!
